Egypt is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the world, with the Ancient Greeks and the Romans being the first to come and sample the delights the country has to offer. From the monuments of Ancient Egypt to the surprisingly modern lifestyles of the main towns and cities, Egypt has enough to keep anyone occupied for long periods of time. The popularity of the country with tourists means that popular areas can become packed in high season, but this shouldn’t put a person off visiting – it’s more than worth it. Cairo is at least a stopping off point for everyone who visits Egypt, and this bustling city has more than enough to offer on its own to keep anyone interested for a long, long time. The huge population of the city live under African, Islamic and European influences which are shown through the architecture, style and cuisine the city offers. Whilst it can be quite a culture shock to see how busy the city is, there are still times when relaxation is on offer, and there are more than enough places in the city for one to put their feet up. The Citadel, Al-Azhar Mosque, the City of the Dead – it’s impossible to list everything this city alone has to offer, but needless to say – it’s a lot. Elsewhere are the popular tourist areas such as Luxor, with the Karnak Temple and the Theban Necropolis, Aswan – gateway to Africa – and the city of Alexandria, which offers Bibliotheka Alexandria, Fort Qait Bay and Montazah Palace for all who come to enjoy. There is a ridiculous amount to do and see in Egypt and no one visit can take it all in – most people would struggle with a whole lifetime to try and fit it in, to be honest. It’s a country that is well worth the attention and reputation it receives. The country is a massive tourist hot spot and will continue to be for many years (hundreds? Thousands?) we’re sure. Oh, and there are the little attractions of the Sphinx and the Giza Pyramids too...
